Christians Helping Women Learn Their Place

Just in case you thought we’d arrived in the 21st century, and that the subjugation of women in the name of religion only happened in the Middle East, I bring you Biblical Gender Roles. And while we are having this discussion, do not think that this website and “ministry” are uniquely extreme. Because they’re not. And many many many Christians will tell you that indeed, they’re not saying anything that the Bible doesn’t teach.

Every infuriating, oppressive, misogynistic point I’m about to share with you is 100% backed up with scripture.

I’m trying to pound this point home in advance because this site came to my attention through a friend (we met when I did the wedding cake for a friend I’ve known since Junior High) posted a critique of it to Facebook. My friend was flabbergasted that such thinking still exists, even after I pointed out that the church I used to belong to taught this exact same thing.

So what is this shocking article about? Here’s a quote:

Women do not know or accept their place in God’s creation anymore. “A woman’s place is in the home” is just one of many truths that our society derides and mocks. “to ‘love, honor and obey’” has been stripped from most marriage vows as women no longer believe they must obey their husbands or be in subjection to their husbands as Sarah who called her husband “lord”(I Peter 3:5-6).

The rest of the article goes on to tell women that the Bible instructs them to be meek, quiet, submissive, dress modestly, embrace Patriarchy, and be dependent upon men. If she’s married, her husband is “her master,” and never to be disobeyed. Each and every admonition is backed up with one or more scriptural references.

As are several other posts that would be considered outrageous by any sane, modern standard. For example, husbands and wives are NOT equal, and if a man allows his wife to be equal to him, its a sin so great he’d be better to divorce her. Women have no right to deny sex to their husbands, no matter how badly they’re treated. And if she consistently refuses, the blog lays out 8 steps to “confront her sexual refusal” that include “stop taking her on dates or trips,” and “stop doing little extra things”

You know those dinners you cook, or that vacuuming you do, or those things that really she should be doing for herself, but you have simply been trying to be nice and doing for her – STOP doing them. Stop giving her those nice back and shoulder massages she loves so much.

Yeah, I’m sure that’ll work well. And when it doesn’t, he should escalate by publicly shaming her, first to friends and then to the church as a whole. Because of course, it doesn’t matter whether or not she WANTS to have sex with him, only that she submits.

Quite frankly, any man who would be willing to degrade his wife in this way – the woman he’s SUPPOSED to love and respect – and force her through emotional blackmail to “give it up” deserves to be miserably celibate.

And this week of course, came the pronouncement that Women’s History Day was more of a cause for mourning than celebration:

The ugly truth is that the woman’s rights movement has decimated God’s institution of marriage and the family.

There’s  a lot more this disgusting, cretinous Trump Supporter of a Misogynist has to say, but I’m over him.

Yet more evidence that this god, this church, this religion, is not for me.
